NOTE: This page includes the officially approved minutes of the meetings of the Staunton Republican Committee, taken by two Secretaries. Patrick Carne served as duly-elected Secretary from May 2006 until January 2007, at which point he resigned. At the February 2007 meeting, which lacked a quorum, Alex Davis agreed to serve as Secretary on a provisional basis until a proper election could be held with a quorum. At the March 2007 meeting, at which 14 members were present (a quorum), Andrew Clem was elected Secretary, without any objection from members of the Committee. Disagreements within the Committee then arose, however, in connection with the 24th Senate District primary race. In August 2007, higher-level party officials intervened to set up a mediation procedure, under the terms of which Patrick Carne agreed to serve as Secretary once again, in an acting capacity. New elections for the position of Secretary were held at the October meeting, and after two ballots, the vote was tied between Andrew Clem and Alex Davis. At the November 2007 meeting, Alex Davis won by a one-vote margin. Repeated requests to him and to the Chair, Anne Taetzsch, for the minutes of meetings since then were not answered. Sorry, the minutes for the last several month's meeting have not been submitted to the Web master. |
